CHALLENGE ASSEMBLY

The part that went well was the word jumble because it look really cool on the video. The Christchurch earthquake skit was very funny because when the buildings were falling over they almost fell on me. When it was my turn to have the spot light I felt like there were frogs in my stomach. The main message of the assembly was to not give up in the middle of the challenge. I think the message went to the audience clearly because nobody was talking. to make the assembly better we should of had a add.

SOLAR LIGHT REFLECTION

The idea of the solar bottle came from a man from Philippines, and there everyone calls him Solar Demi because he has lightened up their homes. He has done this by getting any littered bottle and puts water and bleach into it, then he gets a piece of roofing and cuts a hole that will fit the bottle. When he has done that he squeezes the bottle though and goes to a house, cuts a hole in the roof (as big as the one in the small bit of roofing) and then seals it to the roof with sealent. So if you go under the house it will be as light as a light bulb iwonder if it would still shine if it had no water in it. the best materials to use for a tree house or a kennel would be would be wood or mettalic roofing. because it needs to be stronger otherwise it would break in the rain. im surprised that it actually worked, and I will probably use the idea again.

CALENDER ART!!!!!!!!!!!!

Calender art is something that is using wallpaper (that was not ripped of the wall) to make art. The choices were doing a tree (I did that) owl butterfly and rocketship. I did not think that this activity was very entertaining so I did not like it. I would change everything about it

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY!!!!!!

Today, 27/9/2011 was inter school cross country I and I got into it. There were eight year olds to eleven year olds. My race was the third race so when the person on the speaker phone said "nine year old girls come down to the warm up spot" I shivered with excitement and ran to the warm up spot. While all the nine year old girls were warming up Vardon school were cheering for me. The man who was warming us up said to go to the start line and we all did as he said. The man told us where the track went while he got us ready "321..." CLAP!!!! We all sprinted off and I got in front. We went up a hill and I was still coming first but when we went down the hill a girl passed me.I got tired and slowed down and another two girls got ahead. We ran around the track to find that the other girls were ages back. We ran around a corner and up a REALLY big hill and I got ahead of the two girls ahead of me. Me and the other girl went down the hill and did another lap but I didn't seem to get in front of her. We were on the last 300 metres and I really wanted to pass her so we were going up the hill and I was about a metre behind her and I could hear her school shouting " SHES RIGHT BEHIND YOU" so she turned around but I had already passed her. I sprinted away from her and went back down the hill. I could hear all my friends shouting and cheering and yelling "GO BAILEY!!!!!!!" I sprinted like I never have before and turned to the last 100 metres and saw my mum jumping up and down with excitement. I was so happy I could cry and was 5 metres away from it when I stretched out my arms and had a big grin on my face as I finished. I was given and mark on my hand saying 1. I ran up to my mum and gave her a big hug and had cameras flashing in my eyes. I ran up to my friends under the gazebo to high five my friends. We went on a bus to school after the 11 year old boys ran and I went to see my teacher. He congratulated me and gave me a high five. Soon after that my mum came to pick me up and said "hows my little champ"

CROSS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last Friday, the senior syndicate and some of the middles went to cross country at minoge park. Before cross country I felt really nervous because 8 of my family was there ready to watch me. The 9 yr old girls had to go first and I was in that group. We went to a tree and started to warm up by doing stretches and jogging on a spot. Finally it was time to start we all jogged down to the start line and waited for the whistle to blow. when it blew I started off jogging so I would not lose my energy. We went up a small hill I ran a bit faster for that, then we went thourgh a wet soggy patch of grass then we we went up quite a step hill and then down again. We ran down a huge hill and went thourgh another patch of wet grass while we turned. We ended up by a road and then turned to the last 100 metres. I was well ahead of the others by then and started to sprint. I sprinted faster then I had before and came first. YAY ME!!!!
My gaol was to come 1st 2nd or 3rd and complete the course. I am proud that I over came my challenge of winning the race and giving it my all. Now I will be going to interschools.

MY SPEECH

I was hiding behind the class couch hoping not to be seen because I felt VERY nervous and I was the first person that had to share my speech. As soon as I stood up there I knew I would not get away from doing it so I decided to go as fast as I could but that was a shame because the time of the speech had to be above 2:30 and under 3:30. So I got 2:07. After my speech I felt awesome because I had over come a challenge and felt good about it. Something I did well was believing I could do it and I spoke with expression. Next time I want to work on speaking slow and pausing at the right time.

NARRITIVE WRITING

In room15 we are learning to write a good narrative. a good narrative includes a problem, a solution, a hook in sentence, a clear end and easy to under stand story line. My story is called The Day That Got Worse! I am very good at making a problem because in my story EVERYTHING gets worse!!! One thing I need to focus on is getting a solution into my story. CONCUSSION

On Thursdays 25th of august I was playing basketball at lunch time and tripped over the ball and got rushed to the sick bay. Mrs Mcbeth said that I had concussion. I didn't know what it was so I was puzzled. Mrs Mcbeth said that it meant you bang your head and your brain sometimes gets damaged. I had mild concussion so I really had nothing to worry about except throwing up and getting really drowsy. My dad came to pick me up and he toke me to the doctor he also rang my mum so she knew what happened. She turned up like 3 seconds before a person said "Bailey Guilford" We went into the appointment room and a doctor (I can't remember his name) gave me a check up he said I was fine but I should have a very big sleep when I get home. So when we got out of the appointment room I cuddled and good-byed my mum and got into my dads car and went home to bed. The next day I was feeling OK but I had a little head ache. I we tn to school and then a stream of people came up to me saying "we were so worried"

In week 9 room15 will do speeches. I feel I will muck up and have a nervous break down I need to focus on eye contact and speaking louder than usual I feel I will muck up because people are staring at you and if you do something wrong people will laugh at you

SEGREGATION

Segregation is a very bad thing. It separates white people from black.


At school I learnt that segregation can cause lots of harm and violence. I also learnt that Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr did a boycott to hurt the bus companies for making a rule that blacks had to give their seats up for white people. When Rosa Parks did not give up her seat I was amazed because she knew she was going to go to jail. When she went further with this boycott she won a Nobel medal. When she died Martin carried on even though his house was bombed ,he was stabbed in the chest and he went to jail many times he still carried on. He won a peace prize and was the youngest person to win this. My question about segregation is how did segregation start? and why did they think that white people are better than black? ONE WEEK INTO THE HOLIDAYS

This week has been fun BUT I had to hang out with my VERY stinky brother.
My week timetable was stay at my grandmas house for two days, stay at my own house because mum had a day off work, stay at home again cause my step dad had a day off then on Friday I went to my mums friends house. 5 DAYS INTO THE HOLIDAYS

READING!!!!!!!!!

In reading I am in the top group called C.S Lewis and we have been reading a novel called Enemy at the Gate. We had to read 38 chapters of this exciting novel. Each chapter is at least 6 pages long but nobody could stop reading because it was so exciting BUT it almost made me cry. The main character was a 12 year old boy whose little sister suffers from infantile paralysis and has 98 percent of dieing When his sister heals he is so relived and hugs his sister many times to give her the love she has been missing out on.

SOCCER!!

Sup again folks, soccer is a really fun sport aye, well I have been playing soccer for 4 years now and I should know if it is fun or not and it is. Well this year I play soccer BUT I am not in the best team I guess. we try our best to win our games but it does not seem to be working and to make it worse normally we don't have practice OR our games so what does that mean I hope we get better at soccer soon because it is really hard to win.

WRITING!!!!

In class we do English which is spelling, writing, reading and history. Everybody in rm15 loves writing the best because of one thing POWER WRITING!!!!!!!!!

Power writing is all about one thing using your imagination and skills like using nouns, similes, metaphors and adjectives.

Here`s how we start off, Mr Marquand (our teacher) will write a sentence starter on the white board and before he shows it to us he makes sure we are all ready to start writing then he flips over the board and starts the time for 8 minutes when we are done he says count up your words (my highest amount of words was 199) and then he calls us down to the mat so some of us can share our stories.

ROOM15 PROJECT

In room15 our WHOLE class had to do a project on a natural disaster and for extra we could use an example of a disaster to help us. we had to do all our work on a

poster or a PowerPoint.

I decided to be smart like Einstein and use the extra activity to be my whole poster and my finished result of choosing a disaster was going to be the Ballantynes fire, pretty cool huh? Researching for this was really fun.

The website I researching on was Christchurch city libraries kids then I went to homework zone and then clicked on NZ disasters and found pages and pages of great information on the Ballantynes fire , pics and everything!!!

I presented my poster on the 5th of July. The teacher said it was good and I was proud of myself for doing a good job.

MATH!!

In maths my group is called Einstein and we are the highest group.We do lots of really hard questions like 987 + 654= I will tell you how we solve them. First of all we say well 4+7=11 so we put a 1 at the end and then we carry the one. Then we do 5+8=13 but this time since we carried the one we need to add 1 so 6+8=14 because the answer was 14 you have to carrie the one again 7 + 9 =16 so... 987 + 654 =1641
